In May 2020, IACT College, a member of the BAC Education Group, became the first college in Southeast Asia to hold its graduation ceremony online. This ‘first-of-its-kind e-Convo’ was the brainchild of Raja Singham, the Chairman of the Education Group, and of IACT. This live stream graduation, was designed in response to the pandemic-related movement control order, that was implemented during that period. Although the pandemic opened up a door to many challenges, it also pushed everyone to learn how to run things online.
IACT’s graduating class of 2020 had 237 graduates receiving their scrolls from certificate, foundation, diploma, and degree programmes. As a special memento for their unique graduation experience, each graduate received a t-shirt with the phrase “Graduating Straight Outta Quarantine” or “Class of 2020. Can’t Hold Back. #MCO.” The highlight of the Zoom e-Convo, was when each graduate’s photo and their personalized message, was featured on screen. The graduates also symbolically received their ‘scrolls from the cloud’ through BAC Education Group’s innovative blockchain platform, which is hack-proof and securely achieved in perpetuity.
Following its success last year, IACT College held its 2nd e-Convo in May 2021. 335 graduates from IACT’s certificate, foundation, diploma, and degree programmes joined the live stream from the BAC Performing Arts Centre (BACPAC) in the 2-hour long ceremony. Amrita Dillon, a fellow lecturer, and Programme Coordinator for School of Creative Communication, was emcee of the event. While Lawrence Chan, Chief Collaboration Officer of the BAC Education Group, urged graduates to build emotional resilience and adapt to constant change, Chairman of the Group Mr.Raja Singham, in his speech, urged graduates to stay relevant by learning, unlearning, and relearning.
The event’s keynote speaker, media personality Asha Gill, advised students to stay true to their dreams and ambitions and not to waver no matter what other ‘well meaning’ people, have to say about their choices. Then came the highlight of the event, where each graduate’s name was called, with their credentials and picture displayed on screen to symbolically acknowledge their graduation. They then received their scroll through BAC Education Group’s innovative and secure blockchain platform.
Tung Hui Ying, won the IACT College Valedictorian 2021 Award for graduating with a 1st Class Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Media, Culture and Communication. Besides the individual academic awards from the different schools of study, a new award introduced this year, The Chairman’s Top Student Award, was won by Juliana Reza, who graduated with a Diploma in Broadcasting & Film.
Following the footsteps of IACT College’s successful two-in-a-row e-convo, this October we will witness another exciting e-convo. This time, by the BAC Law School – the nation’s #1 law school. Check out our social media for the updates on this upcoming event.
