On 24 June 2021, Thursday, the Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) Championships Malaysia Design Competition 2021 organised by Acestar Sdn Bhd took place on Facebook Live. IACT student Nico Wynn ultimately secured 8th place among the Top 10 Winners list in the grand finale.
ACA Championship Malaysia Design Competition is a platform for students whose major is in Art & Design to showcase their work on a broader scale, while opening up many opportunities for them such as securing employment. The annual competition is open to all institutions of higher learning, secondary schools, colleges, and polytechnics. Students are required to participate in ACA Championship Malaysia (National Level), and the winner of this event would stand a chance to compete in ACA World Championship in the USA.
This year, participants saw themselves partnering with Befrienders KL to create a Public Service Awareness (PSA) poster to help spread positive messages to help those who are in need, lonely, in distress, in despair, and having suicidal thoughts – without charge especially in this trying times during the pandemic.
Distinguished representatives from the creative industry were involved in the artwork selection for top 30 finalists. They were Andrew Low, Dentsu Malaysia’s Group Chief Creative Officer (CCO); Ken Foong, the Chief Operation Officer (COO) and Chief Creative Officer (CCO) of LemonSky Studio; and Ham Maghazeh, Social Media Director of Lion & Lion. This year’s championship had introduced a special award which is Anugerah Perdana awarded by former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir unto the selected artwork of his choice.
20 students from IACT College participated in this competition, among other participants from various institutions. Nico Wynn from BA (Hons) Advertising & Design (BAD) was selected as one of the Top 30 finalists. The selected 30 participants had to go through a Live Test for 8 hours. It was held on the 3rd of June 2021 from 9am to 6pm. A three-days-workshop was conducted before they were officially certified for the final round.
During this round, each participant was given only 8 to 9 hours to complete another set of tasks given by Befrienders without the help of the Internet. This is to guarantee the authenticity of the ideas produced for this round. In the grand finale, Nico Wynn secured 8th place among the Top 10 Winners list.
