In these uncertain times, children are the ones who struggle the most and need moral and emotional support. When the National Cancer Society of Malaysia’s Children’s Home of Hope was closed to visitors due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the young residents were left yearning for a dose of care and hope.
The Children’s Home of Hope was established by the National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM) to provide free accommodation for child cancer patients and their caregivers, especially those travelling from other parts of Malaysia to undergo treatment in Kuala Lumpur.
BAC’s Leo Club decided to bring some cheer to the young residents of the home by organizing the ‘Jars of Hope’ Project. On 15th , September 2020, Leo Lim Jia Ken and Leo Tan Zhao Ting came together with 10 other Leos to create Jars of Hope to be gifted to the residents of the home.
The volunteers wrote positive quotes in Malay, drew cute doodles on paper and neatly tied them together with strings to be placed in nine separate jars for each ward in the children’s home. A simple yet meaningful gesture that would make a difference to the children, encourage them, and give them hope! Overall, the session also enabled fellow Leos to bond with one another after months of self- isolation.
