The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic has taken its toll on many. Not only has the economy been severely impacted, but with restrictions in place and freedom of movement crippled to a certain extent, staying home throughout most of the lockdowns in a bid to curb the spread of the virus, has inadvertently affected the mental wellbeing of many.
Statistics reveal that there has been a steady rise of depression and suicide cases in the country in the first half of this year. Further reports show that there were almost 500 suicide cases in the first five months alone. Calls for help (Befrienders) also surged by 50% this year, compared to the year before.
In addressing the growing realisation of the importance of mental health and well-being, BAC Education partners with several major organisations in Malaysia bringing you ReachOut.my.
Launched in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, ReachOut is an initiative dedicated to providing aid and support for those going through mental health issues, depression, anxiety, and stress.
Supported by the BAC Education Group, this platform is brought to you, in collaboration with Malaysian Mental Health Association, Befrienders, and Rotary Malaysia’s National Coalition for Mental Well-being Malaysia, among others.
ReachOut also acts as a Helpline with important numbers in place for one to reach out in times of need, it features Stories of Hope with articles for readers to connect with uplifting stories of comfort and hope, advice, and practical tips to overcome and cope with the struggles of tough times, and it also highlights talks that cover diverse topics on mental health and coping with Covid-19.
BAC Education and its collaborative partners are committed to helping and supporting Malaysians mentally and emotionally through these challenging times, and most importantly, to remind people that they are not alone.
Sometimes, one will hit rock bottom only to find hope, and will need to navigate through the darkest places to experience the power of courage.
If you are feeling depressed, lonely, or frustrated, ReachOut is here to support you. You are not alone.
