The film premiere event called “Ready Take One” was held on Saturday and Sunday (7th and 8th August 2020) via Facebook page of Ready Take One. This Short Film Screening event is organized by IACT College’s Final Year Students of Broadcasting & Film to showcase their artwork particularly short films to the public, as a conclusion of 2.5 years of experience in theoretical and practical broadcasting and filmmaking with the guidance of experienced lecturers. The students of Diploma in Broadcasting and Film and as well as Diploma in Mass Communication are assigned on their final year project to showcase their 30-minute short film to the public. Meanwhile, the students are able to apply the basic fundamentals in movie marketing to market themselves and their careers in creative industry.
There were a total of 1.2k view for first day screnning during the event including students’ families and friends. Attendance of special guests include: Mr Lawrence Chan (BAC Group Chief Engagement Officer), Mr Timothy Chan (Academic Head of IACT College), Mr. Syahid Rusdan (Industry Panel), Ms. Nadirah Zakaria (Industry Panel) and Broadcasting & Film Lecturers.
First day of the event started on the 7th of August. The first session of the day was a film entitled Dating Fraud by Arc Production , EGO by Mek Donner Production and P.S. I Miss You – Bee Production. These films had a wide range of drama where it started off with Dating Fraud being a true event film stating an online scammers which has been trending in all over Social Media. This film then shows the conflict that sparked among the Man finds ugly truth after dating a woman online. Next, Ego revolves around two best friends who were studying during the MCO period. Like any best friend, they were always there for each other. Things took an unexpected turn as one of their EGO was bigger than their friendships. Thereafter, P.S I Miss You is a film about If I could go back to the past, I would treasure you. When you stumble across a torn family photo and it reminds you of your past.
Second session of first day event resumes after the lunch break. the second session of the day was a film entitled Epitaph – Spaceship Visual and Chosen – HYMNE Films . The film Epitaph is about a short text honoring a deceased person. A story about two friends; one clinically suicidal, one diagnosed with cancer, embark on a journey exploring their mortality. Delve into the stories of these two friends on “Epitaph”. The last film for the first day was Chosen is about the mysterious side of the dark web can lead people to the dark edges of the world. Curiosity kills the cat as you step into dangerous territory with an anonymous figure. “Chosen” reveals the consequences of a boy who clicked the wrong link.
Second day, on the 8th August 2020, the event started off with a short speech from Mr Lawrence and straight to the first session of films were By The Skin Of Your Teeth by Outrush Studio. A long faded friendship has now cross-paths with reunion, laughter, and hidden secrets. Who knew a night of sleepover would change one’s destiny. Unravel the secret of “By The Skin Of Your Teeth”. The second session films were led by film students. Being said, the second film was Lian by G.O.A.T. TV. The film follows Lian – Love, infatuation, attachment. But what happens when it becomes obcession? Love is not about possession but some people seem to not get that. Infatuate yourself with the short film Lian means Love. The third session is The Past We Hid by Terminal One Studio as the story tells about depression and trauma can haunt people for a long time to come but sometimes the right person will come entangled in your life as secrets are revealed and healing blossoms. But loving someone doesn’t mean you have to be together with them. “The Past we Hid” will be hiding a story of mental health and relationships. The final film for the day and event Ready Take One was He Begins 2020 by On Flow Production he year everybody felt lost and confused was also the year a few friends found solace in each other. It’s an inspiring film.
This then sums up the entire event. Ready Take One Premiere was a memorable final stage for the final year students as there were shed tears along the way of this event and this event has been conducted during the pendemic. The event was then concluded by a final message from Mr Timothy Chan.
