BAC Education Group’s Professional Development community was launched in February 2021, and right from day one, a schedule of plans was set in motion. The company realised the need, and knew the importance of a platform for personal growth and development. With pandemic lock downs in place not long after, many struggled to cope with the sudden isolation caused by going from working in a public office to turning one’s bedroom/ spare room/ any room handy into an office. Although we joke about how wearing pyjamas to work does make life easier, we still are missing the social connection – co-workers and friends.
While we must stay home to control the spread of the pandemic and to keep each other safe, measures were taken to keep staff connected. They say learning never stops, and BACEg’s Professional Development Community hopes to inculcate the culture of continuous learning within the Group through 5 key principles:
- To learn the essential skills to grow individually
- To connect and share knowledge
- To relearn
- To remind ourselves
- To interact with each other
And that is not all!
When one belongs to a community, you do not just have the opportunity to work on yourself. You are encouraged to reach out and share your own thoughts and ideas on what constitutes best practices for growth and development in one’s field and career! As the world around us changes, we too need to ensure the willingness to adapt and stay relevant. Growing together, both as individuals and as an institution is the only way forward in such trying times. It is this, which has led to the development of Work Different.
Launched on 16th June 2021, Work Different is a platform designed for employee engagement and experience. As one of the four pillars under BAC Education Group’s Learn Different (the others being Learn, Play and Impact), the creation of this platform provides employees a chance to share their advice and experiences on best practices for self-growth and development (especially during the lockdown!).
Tied in to topics in keeping with the current situation, under Work Different, BAC employees now learn a lot more about what can be done, and is needed keep on track – through upskilling on a personal level. These ‘self-updates’ help us grow in other areas of life, apart from our jobs. As we learn more about best practices to apply for growth, we also get to hone and develop our existing skills, while adding to our skillsets, with weekly sessions providing a framework for growth.
As of today, there have been 11 sessions, covering topics such as:
- Mental health – Decoding Happiness, Keeping the Blues at Bay During Lockdown & Suicide Prevention and Stress Management
- Financial management – Mastering Personal Finance
- Education – Qualitative Research: Is It for You? & The Art of Conducting Virtual Class
- Work – Servant Leadership & Employee Branding Through Leadership
- Tech Developments – Top 10 Cyber Security Tips & Welcome to 21st Century Skills
And staff can look forward to many more interesting sessions.
As we advance into the New Normal, it is important to keep ourselves primed and ready to go in riding the waves of change, and BAC through its Work Different sessions have given employees the assurance that we are not in this alone.
